One great advantage to buzzing on a smaller mouthpiece is it makes you focus your buzz to the center of the aperture. When I started teaching beginners on all the brass instruments and started playing along with them on trumpet/french horn/trombone/whatever, I really learned to focus my embouchure much better. It actually helped me become more consistent in my accuracy and articulation. I would recommend it. If you have trouble with the really small mouthpiece of a trumpet or FH try a trombone first, and then go smaller later. ken k
