I am suprised to see that Brass Bands have not been brought up in discussing this topic. I am a senior in high school and have been lucky enough to participate in a brass band organization for the past three years. Brass Band is not only very exciting to play in but for every brass band, (about 35 to 40 members) there are usually four to five tuba players. I play EEb tuba in our brass band and regularly have Eb's and F's above the staff. That is for regular parts in a test piece, not a solo, but as part of a chord. Unison multiple-tonguing is also common. Finally BBb tuba players will find their parts challenging because there are long sections that require pedal tones below C and Bb. If a brass band is centered around you I advise you to find out about their audition process and attempt to join. You'll be glad you did.
