Interesting if debatable point, Joe S., if what you mean is the distraction of male horniness is less of a factor for mature men, than for younger ones. But as we get older and continue to apply ourselves professionally we gain experience than makes us more thoughtful ensemble players, and when we begin to experience the problems of "shortened wind" we look for ways to maximize our capabilities, seeking out the paths of least resistance, finding what Toba Hanks calls "easy air," WHAT a coinage that is! Arnold Jacobs was the master at finding the paths of least resistance, that's how he managed to perform into his 70s despite health problems that would have brought down a lesser mind, and let's not forget his colleagues Frank Crisafulli and Ed Kleinhammer, also in their 70s at retirement. And what about Herseth still there pushing 80. This is a new time, and we're finding new ways of extending our usefulness and creativity.

WHAT orchestras, Brian, have cumpulsory retirement at 55 for winds? I didn't think we had cumpulsory retirement ages in the US anymore.
