Steve, for what it's worth, I play alot of F tuba because it is easier. I do like the sound of the F, but the "manageability" aspect was number one for me. I recently played a concert that contained Brahms Tragic and Tschaik 5. I chose to play the F on the Brahms because it was easier and sounded better, the blend with the trombones was smoother as were the sections where, in essence, you become a string bass with punch(the roaring scale and arpeggio at the end). Big horn on Tschaik. Not ready to tackle some big works on F, but I would be interested to know if anyone in the states is currently using a small horn on standard lit. Thanks for a great post.
