I have used synthetic and petroleum based back to back without complications. I switched from Al Cass to Hetman Piston oil and never looked back. Hetman oil comes in three weights. 1 2 and 3. Number 2 is the standard weight and seems to work best for my horn. I accidentally ordered #3, aka Classic Piston, one time from Brasswind and it turned out to be aweful for my horn. The stuff way way too thick and slowed things down. I have never tried the thinnest, #1.

The stuff costs about $5/bottle, but a treatment lasts for several days for those who play regularly. I go through about 1 bottle every 6 months or so.
