Don, I have had the opportunity to play several of both models and I feel the 3301 is the better of the two. The Meinl seems to be a little more closed in it's response particularly in the medium-low range. The upper register seems to be of a slightly brighter nature. The 3301 has more measured response throughout the entire range. Intonation wise, the 3301 semmes to be more consistent over the horn. The only intonation quirk seems to be with the 2nd valve and a few of it's combinations. These are very manageable though and don't cause one to vary from the tonal center to any great extent.I feel that possibly a better comparison can be made of the 3301 and the Miraphone 191. I personally feel that these two are very close the equal to one and another, with the deciding factor a matter of personal preference. One man's perspective.
