Well, I have traveled from upstate New York to Chicago by train a few times with my tuba and never had a problem. Once they put your horn on it doesn't get touched by anyone, i made sure both times that I new where it was on the train. I wouldn't be to worried if you have a good case, concetrate on your audition.
O and bring warm clothes!!!!!! It has been a particularly cold winter this year in upstate New York, and you not being used to sub-zero low teens weather might be a little shocked. Make sure you don't leave your horn out in the cold for to long and give your self plenty of time to warm your horn up!

Steve

P.S. Be carful on any ice that my be on U of R campus, I had a friend that slipped on some ice while carrieng his tuba, not pretty. BEST OF LUCK!
