I don't know if this is a "duh" sort of thing, but try pushing all of the slides in after you are done greasing them. Then, with a soft cloth, wipe around the slides, where the 2 tubes meet. That will remove the extra grease. I suppose you could use something else at that point to cut the grease if you are really having a problem. Then after you know it is free of gunk, attack your tuba with a jar of Haggerty Silver foam. The stuff looks like chocolate pudding in a jar. It works wonders! After you have rinsed off the Haggerty stuff and dried it off, you can do a high buff job with the polish cloth.
