Gus is partially right, though the Hellebergs were actually playing Sanders tubas. The real Sanders factory was destroyed during WWI and never again rebuilt to my knowledge. Interestingly August Helleberg had collected some $60,000 from U.S. investors just prior to WWI and was in Germany attempting to purchase tubas with the U.S.$ when the war started. Consequently, he felt that it would be best to get his $$$ out of Europe and back to the States and was only able to get a few of the horns. The real Sanders tubas were according to all accounts nothing short of amazing, however only a very few were imported and fewer still have survived. Anything since WWI is not a real Sanders and bears virtually no resemblance to the real thing. I don't claim to be an authority on Sanders tubas, but some 20 years ago I did do some research on August Helleberg and as a result of that work I learned quite a bit about the orginal Sanders tubas.
