When I was stationed at Marine Barracks 8th & I in 82-86 I played Contra Bass in the Marine Drum Corps and took lessons from Brad Weaver who was in the Band at the time. I seem to remember he had a Mirafone C 186 or 188. The biggest thing I learned from him was just how much I needed to learn about playing a Tuba. When I was at the Naval School of Music Little Creek Va. I had SFC Dave Dorough as a teacher and I thought he was great even though he smoked too much, but when I got to DC there were such great players all around that it made me feel kind of stupid in my own little world. I remember getting lined up in the Band hall for Friday Night Parade and listening to the Band play the Band arrangement of Taps that was to Die For! Even the field crew sounded awsome. That is the only thing I miss about the Marine Corps, that and getting to listen to Art Lehman play down the hall.
