Here is what I know about your question. I am good friends with a member of the brass section in the B.S.O.. He told me that only about a dozen or so people were invited to play, those with major full time orchestra positions. Those who were not invited, (which I'm sure is a lot) are encouraged to make a tape. The tape list is short and sweet, only 6 excerpts. You have until the 15th of March to get it in and they will notify those who get passed on by the 20th, which doesn't leave a lot of time to make travel plans. I doubt very many people will get passed on from their tape. Those 12 or so who will be there will be a who's who in big time orchestra players.
