A good indicator of future performance can be deducted from historical trends. Take a look at the schools which have turned out the results you are after. If you are looking at performance, then ask around to find out from which schools/teachers the people who have positions you would like one day got their educations. Ask who influenced them the most. There are a lot of big name schools which turn out zero if only a very very small percentage of working professionals, so don't go by name alone. Think to yourself who the biggest names are in pedagogy today. Now narrow your list down to 10 or so and start to find out if you can match up well with their personalities and the schools. If you have the dough, then also consider Europe. Roger Bobo, Michael Lind, and Robert Tucci seem to do pretty well over there.

Over here a few of the names of schools which seem to do well are Indiana, Michigan, Eastman, Northwestern, and Cincinatti. If you can avoid distractions, then Chicago, New York, Boston, Cleveland, or Philadelphia are great places to get exposed to a great number of working professionals. The schools in both town are tought by members of the local symphonies.

In the end it will come down to your own hard work, of course, but having a good environment and a world class working professional mentor can really help guide you along the fruitful path.
