If you like jazz from the twenties, there's a great site called Red Hot Bands. Much of the "tuba" that was recorded during this period was actually sousaphone. If you look at pictures of the jazz bands of this time you'll see that sousaphone was the preferred instrument. A particularly good example on this site is two recordings which include John Kuhn, ("Chief") on sousaphone. The URL is below.
