I did an experiment with mixing 3in1 with Al Cass on our school's sousaphones and on a crappy trombone i had to play for jazz band.
It worked great on the trombone, and it was less scratchy (this was a junker) but you had to reapply Al Cass every time you used it. (I would have had to do that anyway)
On the Sousas it worked very well, previously our sousas had to be oiled at least once every couple of days, or, as usual for our school band people, once before every performance. It made the Al Cass stay good longer, and reduced oiling frequency substancially. You can use to much 3 in 1 though, so be careful.

and a question,
right now i use 3 in 1 on my valve slides for lack of anything better,
I used the pink stuff, but it was a hassle and I didnt really like the feel, i used Vaseline but didnt like that, 3 in 1 is messy
what do you suggest, other than Binak which is hard to get around here?
