Don't get me wrong: a 188 is a great horn, but for the all-around versatility that Julie's seeking, it may be a little big. The 186, especially the newest one, is definitely the kind of horn that, IMO, falls into her category. Also, the 'brightness' of the sound is greatly dependent upon the mouthpiece used on the horn, another testament to its versatility. Depending on the mouthpiece, situation, and player, it can potentially sound as big and dark as any Hirsbrunner. The price is certainly a plus as well. The less spent now, the sooner another horn (i.e. an F) can be bought. By the way, congratulations, Julie, on getting a new horn.
