I haven't tried the Getzen, but the Conn I played doesn't fit this description at all (I'm not sure if it was the 52, or the 56 thought) I felt it to be a real solid horn with great projection (but then again, I was in a small room, but boy did it ring). It sang clearly for me from above high C down to the pedals. I thought it to be very free blowing. My main concern would be intonation, however it was real easy to lip into tune. Also, I'm still getting use to my horn, and the guy who owns the Conn had it set up to where it played best intune for him (strange isn't it, same horn, same mouthpiece and still the intonation was very different) BTW, I played it with a Conn Helleburg. I felt that on the slighty smaller horn (Compared to my Yamaha 822 anyway. And thanks Bill, I'm still loving it!), it would have been a better match than my PT-48, and it worked great.
