I actually tend to tongue pretty far back, a bit behind the gum-tooth line. It works fairly well in the mid-range. I tend to move to the teeth on the low register, but I have a bad habit of actually pushing my lips when I do that. (I have a very deep cup on my mouthpiece, and I probably shouldn't. I don't deal with it well.)
I agree 100% with the post about sound. It's all about how you sound when you play, not so much how you got there.
