Hi Steve, I had the chance to try a VMI 4 valve euphonium which I believe is the instrument you are talking about. It has a wonderful 12 inch bell and a very nice deep dark tone. If you get one, be sure and get a schilke 51D mouthpiece to go with it to do it justice. I, however, opted for the Besson International 765 Euphonium which is also a 4 valve noncompensating horn only the valve placement is 3+1 instead of inline. Check out my friends Jack Saltzman and Mike Russo at woodwind and brasswind (www.wwandbw.com). They have a deal where you can try out 3 different instruments for a 10% downpayment and of course the shipping charges. But that's a lot cheaper than flying somewhere to try them out.
