When I was in high school (1951-54) in southern California, the really good bands with good sousaphone/tuba sections were in the San Diego area (Grossmont High; Mt.Helix High). But, I was always more impressed with some of the high school bands from the middle west that sometimes were in the Rose Parade. (Also, Big 10 college bands at that time always were better than college bands here on the west coast.) Question: Where are the big time high school bands these days? Which of them have really exceptional tuba/suzie sections?
