Yes, the orchestra version has a tuba part. It's trickier than it looks. The notes aren't that big a deal but the hard part is ensemble.
For example, there's a section toward the end with a lot of isolated, accented quarter notes. These accents have to be played together with the basses and timpani. The principal bassist and I always get together and talk about it whenever we do the piece.
Under most of the conductors I've worked with, the piece goes by really really fast. Whatever you do, don't drag.
Musically, I think the piece is a lot of fun. It's an audience pleaser and a good way to open a program. Have fun and don't drag!
