I had one of the Couesnon E flat tubas you describe. Got it on Ebay, and sold it on Ebay. I was very impressed with the tone quality of the instrument, but had to use a lot of alternate fingerings because of intonation problems that, I'm told, are characteristic of that model of tuba. Mine had mottled lacquer and a few dents. The valves were very good. When I sold it, UPS creamed the horn in shipment, so the buyer was able to get a settlement that covered repairs and cosmetic improvements. I used a shaved Schilke 60B bass trombone mouthpiece on this instrument because the m/p receiver was small.
