In 1954 I played Petrouschka in the Pittsburgh Symphony using a large bore King BBb tuba under guest conductor Igor Strawinsky. I asked him during one of the breaks what kind of tuba he wanted it played on. He replied "For all Russian music you should use the largest tuba available".
