Excellent points, Jay! Until things change, and as years pass by, more and more of these materials are likely to become out of print/unaccessible-- especially to students who do not have the $50 to bid on a "Bill Bell and His Tuba" album on Ebay.

As a profession, we must find solutions to this problem. Within the music publishing/recording business, and through changes/provisions in existing copyright law, there must become ways to obtain these materials, fairly and legitimately-- besides going to places like ebay or asking someone to make a bootleg copy.

Although the library-style archive would be a worthy project (and I think we should do it!), we should not have to go to a library to gain access these materials. Again, there must be ways developed to fairly and legitimately obtain these treasures of our business/profession. Any ideas regarding where/how to start?
