Hmmm... It seems as though most manufacturers have some type of "artist endorsed" or "artist designed" mouthpieces in their lines, and prices on that equpiment seems pretty much in line with everything else. So as far as additional cost covering the "know-how" that goes into designing the thing, I'm not quite seeing the connection. Once it's designed and fed into a computer, I'd imagine it's just a matter of spinning and lathing a brass plug at that point.
It seems as though it's these mega-mouthpieces that have a corner on the high-to-overpriced mouthpiece market, and I'm curious as to where and how the manufacturers are justifying that additional cost. Maybe it's as simple as "Hey, if they're willing to pay it, why not charge it?" I'd like to think, however, that there's more to it than that...
