In 1939 York made 3 4/4 size BBb tubas:

"BBb Top Action Recording Bass, Standard Size
The York Model 706 Recording Bass in BBb resembles the Monster Bass in appearance and equipment. It is built, however, in the popular standard size (height, 45 inches; weight, 23 lbs.). Comfortably carried with strap provided. Medium large bore with improved taper that provides a beautifully deep, full tone with unusual carrying power. A full size, professional bass in every respect. Top action with improved shortened action valves. The 22 inch detachable bell is adjusted with locked-on, loss-proof set screws."

"BBb Side Action Recording Bass
This fine bass, York model 716, is designed for extra convenience and comfort on the march. It is a full-size, large bore instrument with amazing power and richness, regularly supplied with four valve side action. Has all improvements and features described above. Twenty-two inch detachable bell. Height, 45 1/2 inches; weight, 23 1/2 lbs."

"BBb Upright Top Action Bass
York model 700 provides a light and easily filled bass, ideal for the school band and for strenuous marching engagements. A standard size model with three valves, top action and medium bore. Typically York in its perfect design and musical qualities. Bell diameter 18 1/2 inches; length 37 1/2 inches; weight 19 lbs."
A 4th valve was available as an option on any of their tubas, for an extra $50.
