Funny thing is, people grouse when a local player is selected as an interim and becomes the permanent tenured player, as if the world at large is entitled to a nation-wide search (and the associated expense) to be held by the Northcentral Podunck Symphonia.
Now that I think about it, conductors seldom are home-grown products, and there are certainly conductors in the communities where these local/regional orchestras survive.
How "fair" is that?

It really seems odd that discussion about the auditions circuit would have the word "fair" in it...but it's not like Fresno had hundreds of apps and dozens of players
being heard
