The advice I received from Arnold Jacobs was always TOE. With a small t and large O for the wind to move through the horn. He always wanted me to sing in my head, while playing... tO, tO, tO etc.

This way I did not concentrate on where to put my tongue but rather focused on the sound I wanted to hear. Jake never seemed to be concerned with the physical (place this here, put that there) but always focused on the sound. I always played with an off-centered embouchure and slightly puffed cheeks. He never said a word about that except to say when the sound is right the physical aspect will be right.
