Like the other poster's horn, my souzie was completely black at first. I used a bunch of rags, a bunch of those plastic gloves you can buy at the dollar store ($1 for hundred, pretty good deal), and about three quarts of elbow grease. That worked pretty well on the parts I could reach, but what about those hard to get places, i.e., between the pistons, in between the tuning slides, etc?
What worked really well for those areas was a Selmer silver polishing cloth. Thread through the tight spots, and pull it back and forth as if you were shining shoes.
