Lack of focus during practice and performance is something every amateur and professional has dealt with at some point. There is much literature on the subject relating to metacognition (analyzing your thinking) and self-regulation. When your playing, try to think about what your thinking. It is incredibly easy to let your mind wander and it is essential that you learn to focus on the music in front of you rather than concentrating on what kind of beer your going to pick up that night or whatever the case may be. It's been suggested to me to take a piece of paper into the practice room and write a tick down everytime you find yourself wandering in thought. Once you start to get an idea of how often this occurs and how detrimental it may be to your efficiency, you will learn to focus more attention to the task at hand. Go do some reading on the subject...it helped me. Hopefully this helps...
