I've recently got a recording of Arnold Jacobs playing the Vaughan Williams Concerto and, frankly, I was very disappointed with the playing. The recording is fine, balanced, good overall sound etc., but next to the John Fletcher recording I have it's positively average in sound, tuning and style (IMHO). Perhap's we're missing something?
I'll say unconditionally that his teachings are amongst the best I've ever read, and he was a fine section player no doubt, but this particular recording left me cold.
