The Tascam DA-P1 is the one I wish I had bought. It lists for around $1500. It is portable with XLR connectors and phantom power. Instead I bought the "cheaper" Sony PCM M-1. It works fine, but us not as durable and dowsn't have the phantom power. The sony also has a proprietary digital input/output jack. The Tascam uses a more standard coax RCA type in/out for digital copies.

Dat is dying though. I have read that Tascam will sell of their current inventory and not make any more. I believe they have around 1 more years worth of machines in their warehouses. Too bad.

If you are using a digital media then the big item to invest in are the microphones. That is what make the most difference in recording quality.
