Many tubists use the old stretch down the corners of your mouth when playing. That makes them so sharp that the tuning slide is almost all the way out. That happens also to French hornists. The late horn teacher of Dale Clevenger and Phil Meyers cured that by having his students pucker their lips whilst thinking of forming and O through which to blow. That made them get a much rounder sound and lowered the pitch so much that they had to push the tuning slides in a couple of inches. That also works on the tuba. If you wish you could also get a much deeper mouthpiece with a longer shank!
