Back when I was in school, we all used to go crazy over that old Barenboim Bruckner 4. I gave that a listen for the first time in years recently and I got to say that that is one of the worst sounding low brass recordings I own. Bad pitch, bad sounds, poor ensemble. I'm glad I put those recordings away and listened to some higher quality stuff as I matured as a musician. Old CSO Low Brass overrated? Yes! Reminds me of that old fable "The Emperor's New Clothes".
