Maybe there's no need to refute the original statement, and MAYbe to presume disagreement based on a summary dismissal of that statement is every bit as childish a reaction as you'd want to imply upon others?

There's always the risk of lousy recordings by every musician or ensemble ever recorded.
Mistakes like those quoted do not imply poor musicianship, period. If ANYthing they underline the humanity of the performers and the period they were being recorded in. And to use such mistakes as a springboard to justify a needless and pointless slam of an ensemble like CSO is pretty pointless. Some people say fishing is pointless too, but I don't expect reasoning by analogy to be the forte of the average doke here.

If you want to believe that everyone is entitled to express their opinion in an unmoderated forum, then you do not enjoy the freedom to escape the expression of any others-regardless of form, and you certainly have NO right to presume yours any more valid than the next person's! If thats what you want, start your own BBS, or complain, or just go practice and get over it.

Perhaps "terry" could have stated the following in a way that better illicits what you are looking for when you describe "meaninful debate"?

"A lot of people think that old CSO is the end all of brass playing. Sometimes I think we should put an end to the myths and legends of the 'good ole days' where its easy to say that loud is better even if it becomes amusical."
