Joe,
You are correct as far as I remeber about the "French Besson" trumpets being made by Kanstul. They ones endorsed by Marvin Stamm with the little card with his signiture on it in the case. The fit and finish on the lacquer versions seemes to be far better than the silver plate (for obvious reasons). The other problem was that every horn that came in needed to be prepped an extensive amount to feel like an average off the shelf Bach. I have heard some excellent sound come out of some of them, but some of the others weren't as good as an intermediate Yamaha. I have also seen the demos sent out to the "Artist" endorsers and the were excellent. FWIW, the Kanstul branded horns were far better than the French Bessons at the time. My experience is about three to four years old and I have heard that Kanstul may no longer be making the French Bessons any more.
