I have both the New York/Masur and the Chicago/Solti that came out around that time. Both are amazing recordings, and do the composer justice. I like listening to the differences in the two orchestras...brass sound, tuba sound and interpretation...everything! I love the way Deck plays the solo and the amazing tone quality. I prefer Pokorny's darker sound and his musicality. If you could take the low brass from NY and add it to the trumpets and horns of Chicago...I wonder how that would sound. Get both recordings, they are awesome.
