Unless otherwise marked, ive understood the change in time signature to change only what note gets the beat, not how long that beat is.

Example:

quarternote=120 Youre in 4/4 and go to 6/8. in 4/4 the quarter note goes at 120, now the dotted quarter note goes at 120. Going from 4/4 to 3/2 the half note then goes 120. UNLESS it says upa bove quarter note=quartert note or something like that, in which case you can do the math, as this is hard to describe wirtten.
