Might I add a few helpful hints that I can remember from when I was looking:

1) find a local pro and start studying with him/her. This way, if they know of any leads on used horns, they may be able to help you try them out.

2) There are some decent shops out by you, most notably Tony Clements in San Jose, CA and Dan Oberloh in Washington. I know they're not directly next to you, but they're close enough.

3) I really like Steve Dedman's idea about ITEC, but I prefer the Army Conference in almost every way. Simply because it's free to go to and being someone who can't afford a ton of money, I like the fact that it's a bit more reasonable to get to than where some of the ITEC's are located.

Just some simple suggestions, let us know how your search goes.

Sincerely,
