Um, not sure why you wouldn't WANT to check out Low Brass Werks in California,
it just might make more sense than excursions to detroit or Tejas, since it's only an hours flight from Portland. You can round-trip from Portland to San Jose for under a hundred bucks, and for that money maybe your folks would come along and you can make a weekend of it and see San Francisco? Its a great city to visit in the springtime if you haven't been there, heck the whole bay area's got great places to sight-see! Then again, if you want to go right away and all you want to do is play test a bunch of horns and you are not ready to buy for some months - by all means go to the storefronts you mentioned, play what you want, and then leave!
