I used to use a DW practice mute to practice the euphonium at home. When I started taking lessons several years ago, I played a few etudes for my teacher and his first response was, "You play with a practice mute, don't you?" He suggested that it was fine in a pinch, but that I should work hard to find locations where I could practice without the mute.
Are there other opinions about the Yamaha silent brass for tuba? Would it be suitable to use this system with an older Besson Eb (3 valve compensating)?
