The St. Petersburg instruments are generally inferior instruments. They have a good bore and taper, resulting in a good sound and intonation. However, they are cursed by their inferior valve construction and the finish of the horn. I'm not trying to knock anyone's horn or preference, but I cannot in good conscience let someone go unwarned- I've worked on several of these horns. By the way, comparing a Rudolf Meinl tuba to a St. Petersburg is like comparing a BMW to a Yugo. I'll gladly buy (or fix) any Rudolf Meinl you're dissatisfied with!
