You really shouldn't play by feel at all. That is the big thing that Arnold Jacobs taught. You play by sound because the lips (playing by feel) will decieve you. You have to practice buzzing on the mouthpice alone in order to make your buzz more efficient with and without the horn. Buzz with a certain sound in mind and do the same when you play. The moment you begin to play or buzz by feel is the moment that you will fail.
