It is difficult if not impossible to second-guess the mind of these people you are listening to. One thing you might consider for yourself, are you taking private lessons from a tuba teacher? If so, ask your teacher about these topics. Your teacher is the person best able to answer such questions for you since your teacher knows your strengths weaknesses and abilities as a player!
If you do NOT presently take private lessons from a tuba teacher, tell us where you live and perhaps someone on the list can give you a recommendation to a teacher in your area.
