The 4/4 Rudi BBb, model RM1 B 45-4S, with a list price of about $9,800.00, is a large-bore BBb with an 18" bell. A serious profesional-grade instrument, you can't buy a better-made 4-rotary 4/4 BBb.
The 5/4 Rudi BBb, model RM1 B 50-4S (4-valve)is more of the same, list priced at about $10,920.00.
The Bayreuth Model BBb's, in 4- or 5-valve versions, list priced at about $11,640.00 and $13,580.00, and have no comparable competetion. I played one at the factory, and it seemed that they had even engineered in the crisp CC tuba "Feel" into the response. It just felt like playing a huge CC, except that I was using BBb fingerings.
For most people, buying a Bayreuth BBb would be like buying the top-of-the-line Mercedes sedan to commute to work and get the groceries. It's way more than most people would ever need, but a few people are going to really enjoy them, I suspect.
For those of you who cannot get enough of a good thing, there is a 6/4 Rudi BBb, RM1 B 56-4S, 22|" bell, about the size of a refrigerator, that is priced at just $17,040.00.
I quoted the approximate prices in Euro from the 2002 price list, as the US Dollar and Euro are currently roughly equal.
