I used the same method to iron out my weaknesses. To take it one step futher is to play the exercise with a "t" and record it, and then play the same exercise with the "k". Continue this on various exercises until they sound identical. Also, used a metronome to make sure you keep moving the tounge at the same speed. Basically, you want your multiple tounging to sound like really fast single tounging. Also, don't be afraid to play quarter note scales alternating the syllables, once again looking for consistency.
