After the tuba-crash incident, I asked the victim where his horn was insured.

He uses Clarion--its an insurance company SPECIFICALLY for instruments. For about $300 a year, you can insure up to $15,000 in instruments, and the rates go up from there. So, it can cover multiple instruments--just get them appraised, send all your appraisals to Clarion, and you're good to go. I think he even has a joint insurance account with his wife, who is also a musician.

The nice thing about this is it is insured EVERYWHERE. In the home, on his back, in his trunk, at the gig. The only thing they would not insure is theft FROM a band room. So, dont store your instrument in a school band room, and you're OK. (it covers theft from everywhere else though)

I dont know much about homeowners (I'm not a homeowner), but you may be wary of them--they may NOT cover the horn once it leaves your residence. Check on that.

(oh yeah, the for Clarion is 1-800-VIVALDI)
