I think it is mainly a comfort thing. When you are used to doing things a certain way for an extended period of time you want them to remain the same. This to me is as much of a life issue as it is a tuba issue. I find as I rapidly approach my thirties(I know that is not that old) that I don't like things to change. I played a Yamaha 321 for a long time in school. It took me awhile to get used to the Conn 5j front action I was issued in college. My exwife used to complain that if I could live my life the same way till I was 80 I would not change a thing. From the big to the small. I hope this helps.
