I could write a sermon, but will just say, that the orginal Sovereign 3+1 comp BBb was the 992 equalling the marching 982 Eb. Sometime around 1997 the 992 was replaced by the 994, which is sold as having the bell closer to the players ear and to be more compact.

The picture hopefully appearing above here shows the Sovereign tubas as illustrated in a circa 1985 Besson catalogue. Note the 981 leadpipe position.
