Hey partner,

You picked it, and at least those who hear you do it appreciate it.

I remember when I was a kid up at Interlochen and the Detroit Symphony made their then-annual trip (Do they still do this?) and played Tchaik 4. Of course, all the kids went nuts and gave them an unending standing-O.

Afterwards when I was backstage talking to Mr. Wes J. for a minute while he was changing out of his tux, one of the DSO trombonists was griping about playing the T4 Finale a second time as an "encore".

For quite a few years it has occurred to me that

- playing that encore wasn't much of a chore, and should have been viewed as a priviledge.
- He was paid to be there.
- His audience was probably one of the most appreciative for which he ever played.

Just to clarify, Mr. W. Jacobs was extremely polite and accomodating.
