My concept is to have the clarity of sound of a good euphoniumist in my mid and low registers, combined with the power and chutzpah of the pedal pipes on a Fisk pipe organ. To that end, I would listen to some recordings of Brian Bowman and Neal Corwell (in addition to the other recordings already mentioned elsewhere in this thread!)

Like others have said, you have to find your own voice. Where that concept comes from is entirely up to you. Once you find it, it is very important to be able to describe it to yourself quickly, like my statement above. That's how I can constantly be giving myself feedback as I'm playing: after enough years, my ear automatically tells me if I am satisfying the two qualities mentioned.
